Woodland Eggs
Imagine the scene… Hundreds of hens running around in acres of beautiful woodland, breathing the fresh air, frolicking with each other, really enjoying life! Then a team of collectors with baskets spend a joyful morning finding the eggs…
Ok, a little OTT, but then the truth… In order for the manufacturers to claim woodland eggs, there must be 1 tree per 5 chickens. The trees can even be saplings! Not such an
idylic setting then! A hundred chickens running around 20 saplings. Probably no more “good for you” than free-range eggs, but a nice premium on the price tag.
Now, this got me thinking about beliefs again. If it’s that easy to create an impression from the words “woodland eggs”, imagine the ideas and beliefs we hold about other things that aren’t quite how they really are. Indeed some of the truths we hold dear are really not truths at all! However we would defend them if they were challenged because they are true. To us.
So next time you are challenged in something you believe in, or believe to be true, remember the woodland eggs and make sure you are at least prepared to hear the opposing view and see if there is any truth in there for you! If not, that’s great, accept that that person thinks differently to you. We are only right and wrong by our own definition. There is no absolute right or absolute wrong - you make up your own mind.
Of course, to me this is right, to you it may not be! Either way is great!
As the Buddha said, “Believe nothing. Do not even believe me!”
Be more,
Dan
