Visualisation - Think It, Feel It, Be It

One of the most important components of dreams, goals and the Law of Attraction is visualisation. Most people understand the basic concept of picturing that which they want in their mind. It is not a new concept, but it has certainly reached more people since the release of the film The Secret. It’s well discussed there and in numerous other books, articles, dvds etc. More information and resources can be found by clicking this link to Amazon - The Secret at Amazon

The thing to remember is that in order to take this tool to its fullest potential in your life, you need to create not only images in your mind. The extra ingredients of feelings, emotions, sounds and any other senses you can include, creates a more powerful visualisation and with it a more powerful link between you and that which you want. The more real the reality in your head, the more real the reality in your life will become.

This is not a tool simply to create money or objects in your life, you can use this to define who you are. For instance, if you lack confidence, then visualising yourself as confident, picturing what you are doing, how you look, how you sound, how you feel and as much detail as possible, is a fantastic way to increase your confidence. Spend time every day thinking about this and including these extra details into your mental images. In fact for some people, they find mental images challenging, but can easily create a sense or a feeling in their minds - for these people, work on your mental images. It is important to practice and above all, have fun with this. Once you believe it in your mind, you can see, feel, hear, smell and even taste it, you will know deep down that this will be your reality. You are on the road to success in whatever you want - enjoy the journey!

It’s Your Choice

Choice is a wonderful topic for a personal development and self-improvement blog to consider. It is for me one of the fundamentals for living a fulfilling life. The more options you can perceive, the more opportunity you have to express who you really are.

If every moment is a choice, then we are simply expressing ourselves as we are in each moment. The choices we make define our own definitions - right, wrong; hot, cold; fun, boring; good, bad etc. It is how we express what we feel about the world we are creating.

There are many who believe (myself included) that what we bring or attract to ourselves is ours to choose. In fact it may be that we attract these things in order to express who we truly are through the choices we then make. Our re-actions are our choice… This is often a sticking point!

Our choice of language often betrays us, we say things like, “That makes me angry.” This gives us no ownership or responsibility for our reactions and feelings. A more empowering statement is, “I’m feeling angry”, or even better, “I’m choosing to feel angry about this.” This concept that we are choosing our feeling gives us the opportunity to choose a different feeling or reaction, the first example has no such opportunity.

There are many books, recordings and such that can help us consider these ideas and our understanding of how our choices impact on our lives. Understanding choice in an abundant life is the key to taking charge and moving away from being the victim of your life to becoming the creator of your experience.

Welcome to Planet Earth

In a recording by Esther and Jerry Hicks (authors of The Law of Attraction) and also in the film The Secret, Esther says that if today was your first day on the planet we would say to you, “Welcome to Planet Earth”. The vast majority of people who embark upon a journey of self-development and change, wonder what they would have done if they’d only found that book or heard those words 5, 10 or 20 years ago (or more). It matters not when you make the decision to change, only that you make it.

Life is about becoming more than you are today - all that you are today is the result of all that you have been being, thinking and doing. To have more than you have today, you must be and do more than you have been being and doing! So it’s as simple as that??!! Well… erm… Yes! Kind of!

My experience and training in Coaching has also highlighted that although the above is true, there are many factors that influence the outcome or the having bit! Some of you may already know (certainly the vast majority of my clients reading this will) that we all have “Limiting Beliefs” - these are beliefs that you form in your childhood that work against you in your thinking. It’s not all “bad”! Indeed, you probably welcome the limiting belief that prevents you from running out into the road to retrieve a ball you want to get. However the vast majority of our limiting beliefs do not serve us well.

The “good news” is that you can easily spot them in other people, the person who constantly puts themselves down, the person who lacks confidence and shrivels up when anyone talks to them. The “bad news”? It’s pretty hard to spot if they’re yours! They can affect money, confidence, family, relationships, work, business, motivation, health and many other areas of life.

Obviously a Coach or Psychotherapist can help with these challenges and there are also courses of self-development that will tackle these issues. If you find that you are pretty good at setting goals, but things don’t quite work out right, the chances are you’ll have a few of these “Limiting Beliefs” interfering with your goals.

So, off to Google to search for solutions to your limiting beliefs? There are many out there and my advice is to find something that works for you.

In the meantime:

  • be aware of the possibility that you may have limiting beliefs
  • try and notice yourself when you behave or react in a way that is not normal for you

In that moment or soon afterwards, ask yourself the questions:

  • Why did I react like that?
  • How can I change that behaviour or reaction another time?

Be More,

Dan
